Our Philosophy
History of CUC
The Cooperative Union of Cavite (CUC) is a secondary cooperative. It was founded in 1979 but it was dormant through the years until 8 March 1988 when the late BCOD Officer Mr. Antonio Ermeno called for a meeting of cooperative leaders in Bacoor and egged Dr. Oscar J. Tayko to infuse energy and inspiration to get the Cooperative Union of Cavite on the go. Since then, the CUC with its original 10-member coops started to actively conduct and promote activities for education, training and advocacy for cooperatives.
The first decade of CUC’s operation centered on providing the seminars and workshop that focused on cooperative leadership for the province of Cavite. Due to the expanded involvement of many coop leaders in education and training from the increasing member coops of the Union, CUC was able to enlist more competent, committed and well connected coop leaders in the affairs of the Union.
Another key factor to the visibility and continuity of education and training activities of CUC was networking. Taking advantages of information and relationships, key officers have had resources in and out the provinces. A seminar on training of trainers was conducted from the pool of trainers in Cavite. A workshop on curriculum design and module development was also held to enable trainers to develop their modules.
The leadership and management of the Cooperative Union have been fortunately endowed with a team of officers and leaders, whose combine experience and expertise have been “intellectual capital”, an invaluable asset to the Union, not only in education and training but also especially in advocacy for the movement.
